The Locust
Valley Dog Festival is the inspiration of Lynda Anderson, dog lover
and owner of Anderson Galleries in
Locust
Valley
. It is co-chaired
by the Locust Valley Chamber of Commerce President Kaye Weninger, a
long-time community leader. Sponsors include such prestigious
organizations as Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate, Locust
Valley Chamber of Commerce, and
Petco.
Since adopting a sheep
dog mix named Gidget when she was 4, to the three rescued dogs she
owns today. When she decided to mount a show entitled "Dogs in
Art" the idea of creating a festival to benefit local dog shelters
was born. Today, Anderson Galleries' annual "Dogs in Art" show
kicks off opening night for the Locust Valley Dog Festival by
raising funds for the Glen Cove Animal Lovers League. Then on
Sunday ,Mother's Day, the entire North Shore community brings their
families and dogs to Parade their pets, enter our “Mothers
and Mutts” “Mostly Mutts” and “Strut Your Mutts” dog show.
Please join us while we enjoy treats (human and canine), take home
"doggie bags," meet other animal lovers, admire the amazing variety
(and mix!) of breeds, and support the worthy cause of saving dog's
lives. The public is invited to both events, and sponsors are
encouraged to join the community and cause through in-kind and
cash donations.
